The Cave of Trials
The Cave of Trials is one of two new areas in Final Fantasy IV Advance. You can access it once you have defeated the Giant of Babel.
If you return to Mysidia, and climb the Tower of Prayer. Here you will find your ally's you thought lost in the journey. Just approach them, and talk to them. You will then be given a screen where you can change one of your party for them.
When you go to Mt. Ordeals, you will see a new door on the left. This is where you want to go.
B1F
In the first area, climb the ladder in front of you. Head directly up to the chest containing a X-Potion. Now go to the right, and enter the hidden path between the two rocks. In this hidden room, you will find a Red Jacket for Edward. Go back into the main room, climb the ladder on the left side of the room, climb the next ladder, and head into B2F.
B2F
In this area, grab the Remedy to the left of the entrance. Then climb the ladder to the right, and head all the way over to the left. Climb down the ladder, and climb up the one on the left cliff. Climb the second ladder, and grab a Phoenix Down. Then go down one ladder, and head to the bottom of this ledge. Just above the rock on the left, you will find a hidden path, leading to a Coronet for Palom. Head back through the hidden path, climb down the ladder, and head through the door to the south.
B3F
In this room, head straight down, and enter the hidden path to the right. This will take you to the bottom half of the room, where you will find a Cat Hood for Porom. Return to the entrance area, and head down the ladder to the left. Head around the cliff, and climb the ladder. Pick up the Remedy in the chest, and go into the hidden path in the top right corner. This will take you to the chest in the entrance containing a Mysterious Mask for Yang. Head back down the ladder, and go into the door on the bottom left side.
B4F
Once inside, head to the right, and down the ladder. Go directly south, and collect the cottage in the chest to the right. now head to the left wall, and head through the hidden path in the bottom corner. Here you will find the Red Cap for Edward. Head back to where you got the cottage, and go over to the right. there is a Siren at the top of the ladder . After getting it, head to the center of the room, and climb the ladder. before going into the next area, go into the octagon shaped room, and head through the hidden path on the right. Here you will find the courageous suit for Yang. Return to the doorway, and go into the next area.
B5F

Climb the ladder, and climb the other to the right. Now go down the ladder to the left, and enter the hidden path at the top left corner. once in the next room, climb down the ladder, and grab the Sage's Robe for Palom. go back through the hidden path, and climb back up the ladder. in the top left corner, go through the hidden path to get the Lord's Robe for Porom. head back through the path, and go through the doorway to the next area.

Head up, and climb the ladder. In the top left corner of this ledge is a hidden path. it goes up and around the room. Here you will find the Grand Helm for Cid. but before returning to the main area, find the hidden path south of the Grand helm. Go a bit to the right, and climb down the ladder. head all the way to the right, climb the ladder, and go into the next room.
B7F
This area is very straight forward. Just go ahead of the door, get the Megalixir's on either side of the second ladder, and go into the final room.
Boss Room
Inside the final room, you will see six islands. The five islands surrounding the center have boss fights for each character not in the normal party. The center island has a save point on the left, and a warp point to the right. Use a tent at the save point, and save your game. Do this before and after each fight. Though not overly tough, these bosses can be brutal if you are not prepared.
*NOTE* You can only engage the boss, if the correct character is in the party. Be sure to equip the new equipment you got
for them, as it will definitely help out.
Death Machine |
Cid's Boss: Thor's Hammer |
|
Death Mech is a spell lover, and his magic is lethal some of the times. Your saving grace is the slow time it takes between turns. Be sure to have either Rosa, or Porom, with the ability to cast Curaga. You might even want them in together, since one of the fights here is for Porom. My other party members were Cecil attacking, and Rydia casting Bahamut every turn. When you win, you will receive Cid's Thor's Hammer. It is far better than the best hammer he had to this point. |
Flan Master |
Palom's Boss: Triton's Dagger |
|
This can be real easy, or real hard. If you defeat all the accompanying jelly's, they will simply re-form. It is better to
just kill off three of them, to keep party damage to a minimal. Be careful using multi-target spells, as the Master Flan has
a permanent Reflect in use. Stick to Physical attacks, and Rydia's Bahamut if you have her. Since White mousse has a weakness to ice, have Rydia cast Blizzaga on one, while Palom casts Blizzaga on the other. this should easily destroy them. Have Rosa cast Curaga, and Have Cecil and whoever is there attack Master Flan Physically. When the Master Flan falls, defeat the Black Flans, and the battle will be over. Your reward is Palom's Triton's Dagger. |
Tyrannosaurus |
Porom's Boss: Seraphim's Mace |
|
Before you enter this battle, have Porom or Rosa cast Float on the party. T-Rex likes to use earthquake, but it will do nothing to you if Float is in place. Even with the earthquake being negated, you will still have his flame attack, which is pretty devastating on its own. Have either Rosa or Porom cast Curaga every turn. With Rydia, her best bet is Bahamut, Palom is any high level spell. Your other characters should just attack physically. After T-Rex has been sent back to the dead, you will get Porom's Seraphim's Mace. |
Storm Dragon |
Yang's Boss: Hand of the Gods |
|
This boss is the only one in the cave that has a weakness to exploit. The Storm Dragon is weak to Ice magic, so have either
Rydia, Palom, or both. I had both, and filled out the remaining slots with Yang, Cecil, and Rosa. Have Rosa cast Curaga every turn, while Rydia and Palom pound it with Blizzaga spells. Have Cecil and Yang just attack.
One of the dragons favorite attacks is tornado, which reduces your character to single digit HP. When this happens, you should have plenty of time to heal them with Rosa. When Storm Dragon finally falls, you will get Hand of the Gods for Yang. |
Gigas Worm |
Edward's Boss: Apollo's Harp |
|
This battle can be rough. Every time you attack Gigas Worm physically, he will return the attack hard. The best way to go about this is have Rydia, Rosa, Cecil, Edward and Palom. Have Rydia summon Bahamut, and Rosa casting Curaga. Have Palom hit it with either Flare, or Meteor if it is available. Have Cecil defend, and Edward hide. When the worm is history, you will get the Apollo's Harp for Edward. With this weapon, he will not be such a wimpy character anymore! |
There is nothing more to do in the Cave of Trials, once the bosses have all been defeated. If you are having too hard of a time winning the battles, you are probably not high enough in levels to do so. Simply go to the Lunar sub terrain, and level up for a bit. You should then be able to beat them easily.
